WELCOME TO ST. JOHN’S MUSIC MINISTRY

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Psalm 66:1-2. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the lands! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Psalm 100:1-2. Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. (Martin Luther) These words recorded in the Psalms and spoken by Martin Luther, still hold true today. St. John’s has had a long history of choirs and we continue in our Music Ministry to welcome new members to both our choirs.

THE CHILDREN’S CHOIR

The children’s choir consists of children from grades first - eighth. This choir rehearses each Sunday for approximately 30 minutes immediately following the service. Our children’s choir sings once to twice a month during the services. Choir is in session from September - May of each year. The year ends with a pizza party games and goodie bags, awards are given out for recognition, commitment and perfect attendance. The choir also sings at our Service for Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, Mid-week Lenten Services, Holy Week and Easter. Reading music is not required.

THE ADULT CHOIR

The adult choir meets every Tuesday night at the church from 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.. During Advent and Lent, we meet immediately following the Wednesday evening services. The adult choir sings in church two to three times a month. Currently we have a SAB choir, and are always searching for a tenor. Once again, reading music is not required. Our adult choir has sung many years together and harmonize beautifully. Along with all the holidays during the church year, the adult choir adds glorious music to special church days such as Christ the King Sunday and to those receiving First Holy Communion and Confirmation. It wouldn’t be a holiday if our choir didn’t perform one of their Choir Anthems. Both choirs are very dedicated and committed. For some people it is difficult if not impossible to make a full time commitment due to various reasons. That’s o.k. too, you can make a partial commitment to either choir, or you may just choose to rehearse with us during special holidays. The adult choir is like a family to one another and each year we gather together for a celebration during the Christmas season and at the end of the choir year.

Let us remember Ephesians 5:19-20 which tells us to, address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

In Christ,
